One fast fix that can improve search rankings with just a few miniutes of labor is to do a "301 Redirect"
Say, for example you have the domain "mycompany.com". You can your website by typing in: http://mycompany.com or http://www.mycompany.com But what this means is that search rankings for those who link in those separate paths are not summed together but handled independently as if they are two completely separate sites. So you dilute your rankings and fall farther down the search lists than would be otherwise.occur because you are literally competing with yourself. Best practices state that you should only have one “canonical form” for a website. Google for example redirects all queries to http://google.com to http://www.google.com. The same occurs at Amazon, Yahoo, and every other large website.
The fix is relatively quick and easy when done by the approved method to do so. It takes about five minutes and involves adding an “htaccess” file on your web root directory on your webserver.
It takes five minutes or so to improve rankings by as much as 100%.
